An economy of 173 goods

Screenshot from Saecula

Saecula now has a working economy. There are 173 goods, from grain and wool to Toledo steel, Flemish cloth and Baltic amber, and 123 kinds of production building, each with its own workers, inputs and outputs. The chains run all the way through: from mine and charcoal burner to the armourer, from sheep to the tailor, from grain to the bakehouse. Nothing comes from thin air.

Every settlement gets the workshops and fields its size, land, climate and faith allow, and each realm is one market where prices follow supply and demand. The Construction window lets you order new fields, herds, mines and workshops wherever the land allows them. Well-fed places grow, and hungry ones shrink.

  • The Economy window shows a realm's output, what its countryside makes and how well its people's needs are met
  • A Resources window for every place, and woods you can mark for felling
  • Every village has a market day and at least one business of its own
  • 47 regional specialities, from English wool to Lofoten stockfish
